I discussed in my recent Misc. Makeup Purge publish that I have sufficient MAC empties to Back to MAC. I’ve been saving these because last year as well as I really have sufficient for two items! (6 empties = 1 product)  Here’s what will be going back to MAC:

In Canada, we have the choice of trading for either a lipstick, Lipglass or an eye shadow at stand-alone MAC stores. I dislike MAC’s Lipglasses so I’m not redeeming for that. because I get to select two items, why not get one of each of a lipstick as well as an eye shadow?  Similar to the last time when I redeemed for a MAC lipstick (I ended up with celebration Line), I’d like your input on what I ought to get!

I had the very first 3 shades in my last round of Back to MAC options. I’m paying more attention to the surface of the lipsticks this time around around – no Lustres, Glazes or Mattes. I’m primarily focusing on Amplified Cremes, Creamsheens as well as Satins.  The very first set of 5 shades are colours for summertime time, as well as the second set of 5 are much more autumn shades. feel totally free to suggest shades I haven’t listed!

Club Monaco eye shadow brushes

I briefly mentioned my Club Monaco #02 eye shadow clean in my clean stock post.  I called the brush as one that I would run back into a burning building to rescue.

Club Monaco Beauty was a full variety of makeup sold at Club Monaco (CM) stores in Canada as well as at Sephora in the US. [Fun fact: Club Monaco was a Canadian company until they offered it to Ralph Lauren in 1999] The makeup line included signature products such as the notorious Monica Lewinsky lipstick (Sheer Lipstick in Glaze), Eye Grease (cream eye shadows), as well as Cheek Dew (cream blushes) – all in smooth cleaned silver as well as frosted lucite packaging.  I feel they were ahead of the time since no other makeup lines in the early 2000’s offered products like theirs. From the line, I had an eye shadow palette, a powder foundation, a concealer, a handful of lipsticks as well as lipglosses, as well as even a metal eye lash comb (I desire I had saved the lash comb however it wasn’t extremely good).  I might go on about the history of CM however that’s for one more time!  Today I’m right here to talk about the eye shadow clean #02 which I obtained from the eye shadow palette:

What makes this clean so special is that not only is Club Monaco Beauty no longer available – making this clean somewhat of a collector’s item – the high quality of this clean is outstanding.  I’ve had this clean for at least 10 years and it has retained its shape as well as all its hairs.

The bristles are of natural bristles (in fact, back then, great high quality synthetic brushes were a rarity) with a smooth frosted lucite handle.  The shape is a traditional eye shadow shader, with densely packed hairs as well as a somewhat tapered tip.  The most unique element of the CM clean is the narrow shape – around 1.0cm wide – as well as its firm hairs, making it perfect for packing on powder eye shadow onto the lid.

In recent years, I began looking for brushes with similar shape so I might have a rotation of shader brushes.  The closest I’ve ever discovered were from Bourjois (which then I prompty bought 5 as back-ups) as well as Sephora (Pro little shadow #15) – however neither have as firm hairs as the CM.

I’ve put the MAC 239 shading clean and Shu Uemura natural clean 10 next to them for comparison – both of them are much wider than the CM, however, the Shu clean does have a similar firmness as the CM.

Meanwhile, I still kept an eye out on the internet with makeup switch forums as well as ebay for the actual Club Monaco brush.  Would you believe that a person evening I typed in “Club Monaco brushes” into ebay as well as it turned up a listing for three brand new eye shadow brushes?  And would you believe the listing was $10 for all 3?  (The shipping expense twice that, however that’s typical to Canada)  It was so odd, a lady in the us had these brushes for many years as well as never utilized them as well as lastly decided to offer them.  While the #02 clean was not among the 3 that I received, it was amazing to get my hands on other sizes.  I added #05, #06 as well as #07 to my collection:

My favourite of these is #06 since it is the most similar to my original #02. The #07 clean has different hairs than the others – softer – as well as is my least favourite since it doesn’t pick up eye shadow as well.

I’m SO happy with my finds!  I’m now on the search for Club Monaco deal with brushes!

The eye shadow trios rather than the big style palettes are much more of my thing – I just like exactly how Shu Uemura combines colours. then the liner, well, you’ve seen exactly how amazingly well the brown one uses – this purple will be a good addition to my non-black liner collection. I’ve only ever tried the Shu Uemura cleansing oil in a sample size – as well as it was great however I don’t keep in mind much about it because it was just a single utilize sample. I can’t phone call myself a cleansing oil junkie without getting a full size of it!

Burberry nail polish No. 200 Steel Grey

considering that the weather is turning a bit cooler, I thought I’d finally wear this polish which I gotten in January during one of my crazy no-holds-barred hauls:

Steel Grey caught my eye because of its greige tone and golden shimmer.

And let’s be frank, that Burberry packaging suckers me in every time.

The full name of this polish is Burberry icon Colour nail Polish.  I’m shocked that this isn’t called a nail Varnish or Nail Lacquer considering that that’s what all the high-end brands prefer… nail polish is so, pedestrian.

The outer cap removes to reveal a plastic cap that’s much much easier to handle.

The colour is quite eye catching in the bottle – the base is a neutral grey, but it is warmed up by a golden shimmer so the overall colour registers as an olive-y grey.

The formula is a bit goopy but I didn’t experience issues with the formula. It is nearly a one coater.

A second coat evened out everything, but where did the shimmer go?!!

This polish reeled me in with the fine golden shimmers as evident in the bottle. part of my brain already knew that the shimmer wouldn’t register as strongly on the nails but I still had to try it for myself.

Yup, the shimmer is non-existent on the nails. I really must listen to my brain more, huh.

The hidden shimmers are somewhat evident under certain lights.

Despite the case of the missing shimmers, it’s still a very elegant looking polish.  My coworkers gushed over how this colour looked on me. I felt the colour was just ok – nothing extremely unique.

Similar to fivezero, I found the brush to be lacking. The blunt shape isn’t the best to nestle against the nail bed. The width was also problematic – I had to turn the brush sideways to apply to my pinkie fingers.  Also, I found the nylon material Burberry used to create the brush to be a bit stiff and dragged the polish slightly during application.

And to add insult to injury, I experienced significant chipping.

The random item today is a mechanical pencil that I picked up in an Asian stationary store nearby.

It has a poop-shaped topper and reads:

This polish is made in Luxembourg, which is apparently a hub for nail polish manufacturing now.

This costs C$23 for 8ml.  This bottle nearly feels like a tiny nail polish rather than a full sized bottle – it’s quite deceptive with the big metal cap on. This is the only Burberry nail polish I own, and I’m unlikely to get another unless they revamp the brush and give me a lot more than 8ml! given there are so lots of nail polish options out there, both high-end and lower-end – I’m not too sad about not getting a lot more Burberry polishes.

MOTD featuring Annabelle and Vasanti

I’ve never done a MOTD post on the blog since I don’t actually post my face, it makes it somewhat challenging. but through the magic of product photos, swatches, illustration, and imagination – I think I can pull this off.

This is the makeup that I wore on Wednesday. It was a day of meetings for me, so I have to look as “polished” as possible since it’s a lot of face time with both internal and external people. Wednesdays are not my favourite days of the week – hump day indeed!

I’ll list the makeup in the order in which I apply them:

Eyes:

• Vasanti Silky Eye shadow Duo in mount Olympus
• Vasanti Micronized Silky Eyeshadow singles in Brasilia and Vail
• Kiss Me Heroine Make eyeliner in black
• Revlon volume + length Magnified mascara
• Maybelline Eye studio Master drama cream pencil in Taupe Takeover

The far 2 left side swatches are the Shu Uemura brow:sword and Kiss Me Heroine Make eyeliner in black.
The Vasanti eye shadows are ones that I really enjoy but seem to neglect. I used the duo on the lid and blended up, with Brasilia smudged along my lash line, and the Vail as my transitional shade. I used the Maybelline taupe liner on my lower lash line. I’ll be doing a review on the Revlon mascara soon.

Base:

• Illamasqua Skin Base in 6.5 and 7.5
• Mary Kay Undereye Corrector
• too faced born This way concealer in Light (review here)
• LA colors pressed Powder in beige (rave here)

I mix the 2 shades of the Illamasqua foundation for my summer colour (2 parts 6.5 and 1 part 7.5) – in the winter I only need 6.5. This is a wonderful foundation with high pigment and the finish is natural as long as you use a beauty Blender type sponge. and a tiny amount of product, like 2 pea sized dots, is all that’s required.  And, I’ve found a good corrector that works underneath the TF concealer! review to come.

Cheeks & Lips:

• Annabelle Blush-On in spring Petal
• Annabelle TwistUp Retractable Lipstick in Divine

The blush is a natural peachy pink shade that has a bit of a golden sheen but not obvious shimmer – it lasts really well on my face too. and the lipstick is so easy to apply and the colour is like a fresher take on a MLBB shade – warmer and brighter. It’s the kind of colour that brings life to the face.

What I got for Christmas 2015

It’s fun to give and receive for gifts for Christmas! As I mentioned during blogmas, we’re pretty low-key for Christmas which also applies to gifts. I gave my SO coins from the Mint, a cookbook, a top from Roots (no socks! ), a wooden utensil set from William Sonoma, and other kitchen gadgets.  We gave his family clothes, candles, hand creams, chocolate / cookies / nuts (thank goodness for Hickory Farms!), and of course, alcohol.
